Scientific Anglers Mastery Textured Series Nymph Indicator Fly Line
Fishing with a Textured fly line is something that, perhaps, you'd have to experience to explain. While many lines are moving to an ultra slick coating, Scientific Anglers has taken the road less traveled with this textured offering. The Master Textured Series Nymph/Indicator fly line is not only a mouthful to say, but it's also difficult to explain. Embodied with a fine "bubble" texture, this textured line simply feels, and sounds different than slicker lines. Some describe the fly line as a line the creates a light whizzing sound as it zings through the guides. Unlike earlier attempts at a textured line, however, this iteration is far less rough on your finger tips. Those of you who remember the old Sharkskin lines (which resulted in rope burnt fingers) can take comfort in the fact that Scientific Anglers as since refined the idea behind a textured flyline.
First we must highlight WHY Scientific Anglers believes that texture makes its Mastery Textured Series Nymph/Indicator a better fly line. The short story is that Scientific Anglers believes that texture reduces the "memory" of the line making for better turn-over. The result is a much truer fly line that doesn't keep it's coil as you try to fish. They also state that texturing brings improved durability and gives you a stronger overall fly line. The secrete to the iron-like durability fo this fly line series is the braided multifilament core which yields a fly line with moderate stiffness.
The Mastery Textured Series Nymph/Indicator line also features a high-tech 3M Microballoon formulation which gives the line some very impressive flotation characteristics on the water. Scientific Anglers calls this unique, and impressive, formula "Dry Tip". Beyond this feature, this textured fly line also offers both front and back strong welded loops utilizing S.A.I.D line identification. S.A.I.D is, essentially, a line coloration marking system that lets you identify where you're at in your line with a quick, easy glance.
With all these features, you probably want to know how your fishing experience will be effected with the Mastery Textured Series Nymph/Indicator fly line. All this texturing and techno-babble is simply short hand for "creating a line that shoots like cray!" The gaps between the micro texture bubbles encounter less friction during each cast, thus allowing the fly line to shoot faster and more freely. Another boon that the Master Textured Series brings to the table is that the feeding line can now come easier and more freely. Tiny flicks of the wrist will let you cover great gaps of water, while adding/removing slack when needed. With this line you, feel like a symphony conductor while you're on the water.
The Master Textured Series Nymph/Indicator is a forceful and responsive line, due to its front taper. This textured line pairs nicely with a fast-action fly rod and is more than just a gimmick. Unlike previous attempts at a textured fly line, the Master Series Textured lines have a texture that is far from sand paper lines of old. In fact, the texture of this line allows you to launch and then control the line with finesse. Durable, responsive, and powerful are words we would use to describe this line. We really like this nymphing fly line!
Final Score:96% A textured fly line that's finally done right!
